The ‘Self’, which is hidden by ignorance, is to be directly realized by acquiring Self-knowledge of or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana.
The Soul, the Self, which is present in the form of the consciousness. Consciousness manifests itself as waking experience, as dream state and as deep sleep. In reality, the Soul, the Self, transcends all the three states, and it is in its own nondual awareness of its true nature.
In waking and dream are states of ignorance. In the state of ignorance, the duality is experienced as a reality.
In waking experience and dream, the Soul is in ignorance of its own nondual true nature. The waking and dream are the dualistic illusion. The dualistic illusion is present in the form of the ‘I’.
In deep sleep, the Soul remains in its own awareness without the trace of the dualistic illusion, which is present in the form of the ‘I’. While waking experience and dream are both causes and effects, deep sleep is only the cause.
The Soul is neither cause nor effect. The Soul is all-pervading, changeless and non-dual. Self-knowledge is capable of removing the ignorance.
The religious God is not Lord, but real Lord is The Soul, the Self, which is present in the form of consciousness, one without a second. Deep sleep is a state where there are no objects - so it cannot even be called a subject.
It knows nothing, neither itself nor others. Though deep sleep too is non-dual like Soul, still there's the seed of ignorance present in deep sleep.
The Soul knows no sleep and, being Self-luminous, consciousness is all seeing. It transcends the positive wrong knowledge of the waking and dream state and the absence of knowledge in the deep sleep state.
The non-dual Soul is realized when you realize with full and firm conviction that the Self is not you, but the Self is Soul, which is present in the form of consciousness.
When the Soul is awakened from its sleep of ignorance and remains in its own nondual awareness, the world in which you exist becomes merely an illusion created out of consciousness.
The Soul is unborn, dreamless, sleepless, motionless, where all the categories of the intellect are merged, where all duality ceases - there's neither going to nor coming from it.
The Soul is the cause of the universe, and it itself is uncaused. It is known by the sages of truth are free from experiencing the dualistic illusion as reality.
The Soul is like space and the universe is like space in jars. When the jar is destroyed, the space in the jar merges into the open space.
Likewise, when ignorance is destroyed by right knowledge, the universe merges into Soul. Spaces in jars may differ in form, function, and name, but still, there's no difference in space.
Likewise, though the universe may contain a different form, shape, and names, still there's no difference in Soul. Just like the space in the jar is neither the transformation nor a modification nor a part of the space, the universe too is neither the transformation nor a modification nor a part of the Soul.
All elements, subjective as well as objective, are by their nature calm from the beginning, unborn and merged in the absolute. They are so because they are nothing else than the Soul itself, which is unborn.
Duality is the product of ignorance and when the ignorance disappears through wisdom the reality appears on its own. : ~ Santthosh Kumaar
