When seeker becomes free from religion, scriptures and the belief of personal God then he is qualified to tread the Atmic path.
Panchadasi says: ~ "If a person cannot undertake the study into the nature of Brahman, either through a dull intellect or through want of accessories for such inquiry, he must be constantly engaged in the meditation on Brahman." The term accessories here mean "the person who knows Brahman, i.e. Gnani.
Holy books Scriptures, philosophies and theories, all lead to confusion and contradiction because they are based on dualistic perspective.
Mundaka Upanishads: ~ “So-called spiritual pundits and learned are called children because a child takes whatever it thinks as truth. The question never occurs to children, “Is what I have seen or thought really the truth?” (P.334 line 9)
Scriptures are not needed in pursuit of truth. Even the Upanishads and the Advaitic Sages declare the same.
The ultimate truth has to be ascertained without the scriptures by realizing the Self is neither the waking entity not the dream entity, but the Self is the Soul which is present in the form of consciousness. In the realm of truth, the form, time, and space are created out of single stuff. That single stuff is consciousness.
Realizing the single stuff as ultimate truth is Self-realization or truth realization. To realize this truth, there is no need of the scriptures.
The ultimate truth has to be realized first, then only it is possible to know what the scriptures are saying.
Sage Sankara said:~Talk as much philosophy as you like, worship as many Gods as you please, observe ceremonies and sing devotional hymns, but liberation will never come, even after a hundred aeons, without realizing the Oneness.
The ultimate truth has to be ascertained without the scriptures by realizing the Self is neither the waking entity not the dream entity, but the Self is formless Soul which is present in the form of consciousness.
That is why Sage Sankara declare: ~ VC 56. Neither by Yoga nor by Sankhya, nor by good work nor by learning, but by the realization of one's identity with Brahman is Liberation possible, and by no other means.
58. Loud speech consisting of a shower of words, the skill in expounding the Scriptures, and likewise erudition - these merely bring on a little personal enjoyment to the scholar, but are no good for Liberation.
59. The study of the Scriptures is useless so long as the highest Truth is unknown, and it is equally useless when the highest Truth has already been known.
60. The Scriptures consisting of many words are a dense forest which merely causes the mind to ramble. Hence, men of wisdom should earnestly set about knowing the true nature of the Self.
Advaita is the nature of the Soul. Advaita is second to none. Advaita is universal wisdom reveals on its own to all the serious and sincere seekers of truth.
A number of Upanishads are equally dogmatic and self-contradictory because they also begin by assuming Brahman. Few Upanishads prove Brahman at the end of a train of proof, but still they are very confusing and vague.
Swami Vivekananda: ~Jñāna Yoga is divided into three parts. First: hearing the truth--that the Atman is the only reality and that everything else is Maya. Second: reasoning upon this philosophy from all points of view. Third: giving up all further argumentation and realizing the truth. This realization comes from being certain that Brahman is real and everything else is unreal.
Direct knowledge of Brahman cannot be obtained by a study of the holy books, Scriptures, philosophies, and theories. Holy books Scriptures, philosophies and theories, all lead to confusion and contradiction because they are based on dualistic perspective. Whatever is based on dualistic perspective is bound to be an illusion, because the duality is mere an illusion from the ultimate standpoint.
Swami Vivekananda: ~ “Advaita encompasses everything. Since Advaita requires heavy-duty intellectualism, it had to be progressively simplified. (From 'The Complete works of Swami Vivekananda)
Sage Sankara strongly advocated the study of Upanishads, and at the same time cautioned that study of Upanishad alone would not lead to moksha. In matters of such as the spiritual attainment, one’s own realization was the sole authority and it cannot be disputed
Self-knowledge cannot be attained by the study of the scriptures and intellectual understanding, or by bookish knowledge.
Therefore, there is no use of studying the scriptures and other scriptures in order to acquire the non-dual wisdom. That is why Bhagavān Buddha rejected the scriptures, and even Sage Sankara indicated that the ultimate truth lies beyond religion, concept of God and scriptures.
Sage Sankara, indicated in Bhaja Govindam says: ~ “One without knowledge does not obtain liberation even in a hundred births, no matter which religious faith he follows.
Sage Sankara himself had often said that his philosophy was based on Sruti, or revealed scripture. This may be because Sage Sankara addressed the ordinary man, who finds security in the idea of causality and, thus, in the idea of God—and Revelation is indispensable to prove the latter. He believed that those of superior intelligence, have no need of this idea of divine causality, and can, therefore, dispense with Sruti and arrive at the truth of Advaita by pure reason.
The ultimate truth or Brahman does not become established by mastering the holy books, Scriptures, philosophies, and theories
Sage Sankara says the transparent Truth of the Self, which is hidden by the illusion, is to be attained through the instructions of a knower of Brahman, (Gnani)
It is not possible to realize the Advaitic truth without Self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana. Self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana can be acquired by pondering over and over again upon the subject until the world confronts him must be seen as consciousness.
Consciousness is the ultimate truth or Brahman or God. This must become so firmly rooted in his subconscious, he must have the firm conviction, the world that in which he exists is nothing but consciousness. : ~ Santthosh Kumaar
